Mentor Spotlight: Allison Ellis

Allison Ellis, c’19, is a proud Jayhawk with a degree in human biology and a focus in applied behavioral science. She also earned a Global Awareness certificate as a student.

Allison served as both a student ambassador and an orientation assistant while attending KU, helping prospective and incoming students learn more about the university.

She is interested in healthcare and health sciences, community and social services, and non-profit industries, and she has experience in leadership, group management, university recruitment, and volunteerism. Allison can help you with choosing a major, job shadowing, diversity and inclusion, taking advantage of your time in school, and more.

We’re highlighting Jayhawk alumni who serve as mentors to fellow alumni and students to celebrate National Mentoring Month.

How did you end up in your current career?

Although I’m currently not in the field I planned to be in after graduation, taking advantage of an Alternative Break opportunity my senior year at KU led to me moving to Houston and my current work in the optical field.

How has being a Jayhawk helped you in your current work?

Being a Jayhawk helped me learn useful skills that helped me grow personally and professionally. It seems like no matter what field of work I’ve been in, I have always been connected to a Jayhawk, which has been great in terms of networking and getting to meet other alumni, KU parents or fans.

Who was a mentor to you while you were at KU?

I couldn’t pick just one. Both Ally Stanton and Keon Stowers were amazing mentors during my time at KU.
