One of the most famous lines in motion picture history turns 25 this year, but many don’t know the line was delivered by a Jayhawk. Mandy Patinkin, who attended KU from 1970 to ’72, starred in Rob Reiner’s classic The Princess Bride, and while the other stars like Billy Crystal and Andre the Giant made memorable one-liners, none stuck quite so well as Patinkin’s famous line. You know the one.
“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Patinkin, a talented movie and television actor, has returned to campus to meet with KU theater students since achieving stardom. His famous line has reached a new generation as an Internet meme complete with it’s own tumblr. He recently gave a memorable interview when he sat down with NPR’s Melissa Block for All Things Considered to reflect on the movie, it’s legacy and that line. And while he’s often asked to repeat it, Patinkin—like all Jayhawks—remains a good sport. Listen in, courtesy of NPR.org:
