Contact your legislators to advocate for higher education

Strong Hall Jayhawk

Dear Jayhawks for Higher Education:

Next week, the Kansas Legislature will conclude its regular session, and legislators will return to their districts for a three-week break. They will reconvene Wednesday, April 26, for the veto session and continue working toward a final state budget for the next fiscal year.

With this in mind, now is a good time for you to contact your legislators — via phone, email or in-person during the break — and encourage them to support funding and policies that benefit higher education. We recommend you encourage legislators to support Governor Kelly’s proposal for $108 million in new funding for higher education to address rising costs and infrastructure needs.

Of particular interest within the Governor’s proposal is $20 million for need-based aid, which would have tremendous benefits to Kansas students and families. Kansas currently ranks near the bottom nationally in need-based aid, which hurts KU’s ability to recruit and retain students. Additional financial aid from the state would enable more Kansas students to attend KU so they can earn their degree and join the workforce after graduation.

For additional information on the legislative session, visit our Office of Government Relations webpage.

Thank you for all you do on behalf of KU.
