Jayhawks for Higher Education: April 8

State Capitol in Topeka, Kansas | Jayhawks for Higher Education

Dear Jayhawk for Higher Education,

The Legislature adjourned Friday for a three-week recess, so many lawmakers will be back in their communities throughout April. This is an ideal time to thank them for their work thus far and urge their continued support of restoring funds to higher education. A fact sheet offers helpful talking points about KU’s important impact as an engine for statewide economic growth.

The House and Senate have agreed to add $7.5 million in base funding for higher education in fiscal year 2020—on top of Gov. Laura Kelly’s recommended increase of $8.9 million. For KU, the increase would result in about $5.3 million. Final deliberations on the entire budget will occur during the wrap-up session, which begins May 1.

Thank you for your continued advocacy.

Rock Chalk!
