Jayhawks for Higher Education: Feb. 16, 2018

State Capitol in Topeka, Kansas
Dear Jayhawk for Higher Education,

There is encouraging news regarding the potential for restoring the recent cuts to the higher education budget. During a meeting of the House Appropriations Committee, Chairman Rep. Troy Waymaster said the group will consider restoring a portion or all of the $24 million to the six universities (including $7.4 million for KU) during debate of the fiscal year 2019 budget.

Waymaster, a 2000 KU graduate, is one of 24 KU degree-holders in the Legislature. The Jayhawk Caucus includes seven senators and 17 representatives, and many hold leadership positions. The University is fortunate to be well represented among our state’s lawmakers.

Of course, KU also is fortunate to count on your dedication as a legislative advocate. Please continue to participate in legislative forums in your community, and watch for our next message on Friday, March 2.

Thank you, and Rock Chalk!
