Dear Jayhawk for Higher Education,
Thank you for your continuing loyalty as a legislative advocate for KU and higher education in Kansas.
As the Legislature begins the 2018 session today, I want to share the single legislative priority for the Kansas Board of Regents and the state’s six universities: restoring $24 million in Fiscal Year 2017 budget cuts to the higher education system. For KU, these funds total $7.4 million.
Throughout the session, you will receive biweekly updates via email and through our JHE app. If you have not downloaded the app, I encourage you to do so. At key moments, we will provide talking points and ask you to contact your legislators on behalf of KU.
I also hope you will thank your local lawmakers for their service and remind them of higher education’s vital role in helping our state thrive. One way to do so is to participate in local legislative forums. To learn about these events, please follow your representatives and senators on social media and subscribe to their email newsletters.
If you have questions, please contact Jennifer Sanner or me at the Alumni Association or Kelly Reynolds, state relations director, in the KU Office of Public Affairs. Additional information about KU’s efforts in Topeka is available on the KU State Relations page.
Please watch for our first legislative update on Friday, Jan. 19.
