Primary Accountability

The Coordinator or Assistant Director of Student Programs works directly with the Student Alumni Network (SAN) to support strategic initiatives that advance and strengthen SAN and the Student Alumni Endowment Board (SAEB). In collaboration with Director of Student Programs, this position is responsible for developing and executing Student Alumni Network programs and membership activation strategy both at in-person and virtual events.

This position works closely with various teams to create and execute professional development themed, socially enriching, and educational programs that deliver SAN member value and position SAN as the premier networking and alumni access organization on campus consistent with the overall objectives of the University of Kansas and the KU Alumni Association (KUAA). This position may also include projects for other KUAA programs and initiatives. 

Major Duties

  • Advisor to the SAEB which serves as the Governing Body of SAN members, helping execute SAN’s mission while aiding the SAEB Executive Board and general members. This includes developing robust programming through student involvement and leadership, thereby strengthening KU by providing a student involvement opportunity that develops the next generation of alumni volunteers and philanthropists.
  • Support the Director of Student Programs with advancing and strengthening the Student Alumni Network through programming and recruitment efforts.
  • Assist with programming and execution of events for SAN and other KUAA events, as needed.
  • Coordinate communications for the SAN newsletter, social media offerings and event promotions via KUAA internally and to the external campus community.
  • Assist with generating the vision and strategy to promote SAN through KUAA digital and social media platforms.
  • Create an assessment plan for SAN events that align with the KUAA engagement strategy.
  • Coordinate with Legacy Relations team members to host two annual events dedicated to Legacy students.
  • Coordinate student representation and involvement in Admissions events for KUAA such as: Legacy Day, Crimson & Blue Days, Leadership Symposiums, etc., as requested.
  • Works collaboratively with KU Endowment to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to effectively deliver philanthropic messaging across SAN programming. Is a strategic partner in the planning and implementation of student engagement activities for One Day. One KU. – the 24-hour annual giving day in support of the University of Kansas.  
  • Works with the Director of Inclusive Programs and Talent Development to offer inclusive programs that teach students about DEIB at KU and beyond to serve all Jayhawks.
  • Develop, foster, and maintain relationships with campus and community partners to help promote and encourage membership in SAN and utilization of online mentoring network (collaborating and coordinating with other student programs staff).
  • Works with Business Development team on integration of Association corporate partnerships with SAN programs.
  • Attends various Alumni Association and University events and programs as directed
  • Oversees confidential and non-routine information.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Experience in higher education and volunteer management is required.
  • Experience working with diverse student and alumni populations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of University offices, academic programs, and resources is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn about the role of KU Endowment and a commitment to partner with KU Endowment to collaboratively build a Greater University of Kansas is required.
  • Experience with social media and digital marketing and programming virtual, hybrid and in-person large-scale events is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and competency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MS Word, Outlook, Access, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with team members from all departments, as well as externally with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Physical/Environmental Demands

  • Frequent: sitting, hearing, listening, talking (on phone, in person), reading (including computer screens, mail), interaction with staff, alumni, students, University colleagues, vendors, donors, members and corporate partners;
  • Often: repetitive hand motion (such as typing or picking), walking, work outside normal business hours including nights and weekends;
  • Occasional: travel by car or plane to offsite meetings and events, ability to lift or have the ability to utilize reasonable available resources to maneuver up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and exposure to noise and temperature variances at both indoor and outdoor events
