Primary Accountability

The Director of Membership is responsible for developing and executing member recruitment and retention plans; managing the fulfillment and acknowledgement process; managing advertising/marketing traffic and production process and managing corporate partner activation plans.

Major Duties

Management:

  • Leads the organization’s membership recruitment and retention strategy, and actively works with all internal teams to develop, integrate and execute membership strategies to drive engagement and revenue for the organization. comprehensive understanding of the mission of the Alumni Association as it relates to the educational, research and service goals of the University with the ability to communicate the institution’s needs and priorities-both internally and externally.
  • Assists with supervision, training and evaluation of Revenue Development Coordinator and student intern(s).
  • Develops and manages annual membership program budget to support the recruitment and retention plan.

 Membership:

  • Works with Senior Vice President to develop, execute and track member recruitment and retention plan to increase membership at all levels and achieve annual revenue and membership goals.
  • Conducts data analysis to track and report recruitment/retention results and use for development and execution of plans.
  • Manages day-to-day membership renewals, fulfillment and acknowledgements.
  • Manages inventory and distribution of member appreciation gifts and recruitment/retention incentives.
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of membership process in Advance, iModules and online forms.
  • Attends and represents KUAA at events applicable for member recruitment and retention.

Customer Service/Member Engagement:

  • Takes the lead in providing excellent customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to current and potential members and is a key communicator for membership topics both internally and externally.
  • Deepen engagement for current members by engaging the team in a robust retention plan.

Other:

  • Handles confidential and non-routine information.
  • Attends various Alumni Association and University events and programs as directed.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • College Degree (prefer business/marketing degree) and a minimum of 3-5 years related work experience is required; experience with a university or other non-profit membership organization is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong marketing and promotional copywriting skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovative thinking.
  • Maturity, cultural depth and breadth, creativity, integrity, and initiative.
  • Knowledge of and competency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MS Word, Outlook, Access, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with team members from all departments, as well as externally with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • A commitment to valuing diversity, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong project management skills and continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Ability to travel, and to work nights and weekends as required.

Physical/Environmental Demands

  • Frequent: sitting, hearing, listening, talking (on phone, in person), reading (including computer screens, mail), interaction with staff, alumni, students, University colleagues, vendors, donors, members and corporate partners;
  • Often: repetitive hand motion (such as typing or picking), walking;
  • Occasional: work outside normal business hours including nights and weekends; travel by car or plane to offsite meetings and events, ability to lift or have the ability to utilize reasonable available resources to maneuver up to fifty (50) pounds, and exposure to noise and temperature variances at both indoor and outdoor events.
