Primary Accountability

The Marketing Communications Specialist is a member of the KU Alumni Association’s (KUAA) Marketing and Content Strategy Department. The team develops, creates, and implements impactful marketing communications campaigns and initiatives in support of the KUAA’s objectives.

Responsibilities include writing content for internal and external audiences to promote the organization and its benefits through storytelling and creative content. This position serves as a liaison between the Marketing and Content Strategy Department and KUAA’s revenue teams, which include Sales, Business Development, Membership and Donor Relations. Additionally, this position will work closely with the Engagement team to promote its events and programs.

Major Duties

  • Plan, research, edit and create high-quality, engaging content and strategies for assigned alumni e-newsletters, email, thought leadership articles and other marketing materials
  • Coordinate development and implementation of marketing goals and campaigns; evaluate success and report on same
  • Prepare summaries and reports to document marketing communications activities and accomplishments
  • Create standard operating procedures related to marketing communications and related processes as needed
  • Review and report on newsletter analytics
  • Identify problem areas and recommend solutions and action plans
  • Manage assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Engage and network confidently at all levels and across multiple, key campus partners that support KUAA’s brand and mission.
  • Understand KUAA’s mission and how it relates to the educational, research, and service goals of the University.
  • Work both individually and collaboratively, in a team environment that is hybrid.
  • Contribute actively to team’s ideation and planning of marketing plans to increase public awareness of KUAA, to attract and to retain members.
  • Demonstrated engagement in KUAA team meetings by sharing ideas and asking questions.
  • Work with the revenue teams to ensure promotional communications are executed in a timely manner and in line with quality standards required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or related field
  • Three to five years of professional work experience
  • Exceptional written and oral communications
  • Meticulous attention to grammar, style, spelling, and editing
  • Experienced in both short-form and long-form writing
  • Skilled in digital content strategy
  • Experience using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn professionally.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently, as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and other creative platforms, such as Canva
  • Experience with graphic design and web graphics
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advertising, marketing, or public relations agency experience
  • Corporate communications or marketing experience
  • Editorial experience
  • Strategic online marketing ideation and execution
  • Familiarity with WordPress
  • Familiarity with Anthology, Salesforce or other CRM systems

Physical Demands
