Annual Report 2023-2024

Dear Jayhawks,

As we reflect on an incredible year, it’s clear that our shared commitment to KU has driven remarkable progress for the Alumni Association. Together, we’ve strengthened KU and our mission to unite, celebrate and serve over 400,000 Jayhawks worldwide.

The new Jayhawk Welcome Center has quickly become a vibrant hub for prospective students, alumni and friends. Our staff and student ambassadors welcomed more than 50,000 visitors in its first year. This effort contributed to a record-breaking freshman class and elevated the KU brand!

Strategic partnerships were central to this year’s success. Task forces advanced collaborations with the KU Medical Center Alumni Association, strengthened back-office operations across campus entities and developed new ways to connect students and alumni. We also expanded our alliance with Truity Credit Union, establishing Truity as the Official Credit Union of the KU Alumni Association—a historic collaboration that provides enhanced programs and services for all Jayhawks.

Other highlights included our second annual Rock Chalk Forever event in Kansas City, presented by Truity Credit Union. The April 27 celebration drew more than 850 Jayhawks and raised funds for programs that help set students and alumni up for success. In addition, the Jayhawk Career Network—presented by Truity Credit Union, a vital resource connecting Jayhawks throughout their careers, now includes more than 14,500 participants on our KU Mentoring+ online platform!

Thank you for your support, generosity and belief in the power of KU and the Alumni Association. Together, we are building a stronger future for KU and Jayhawks everywhere.

Our Mission

We build lifelong relationships that strengthen the University of Kansas and the legacy of excellence embodied by its students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends.

Our Vision

The KU Alumni Association is a trusted, strategic partner in advancing the mission of the University of Kansas by uniting a global network of Jayhawks and increasing the value of KU degrees.

Our Commitments

Through the support of dues-paying members, donors and friends,
the KU Alumni Association creates positive impact for the University
of Kansas in five ways: We Advocate, Communicate, Recruit,
 Serve and Unite Jayhawks.

Highlights

Strategic Plan

The Association team, national Board of Directors and University stakeholders collaborated on a new strategic plan for fiscal years 2024-2026, with an internal focus on cross-functional teams, performance management and reaching objectives and key results.

1. Lifelong Engagement

Develop relevant, custom and personalized Jayhawk experiences to strengthen the value proposition for current and future alumni members and donors.

2. Inclusive Excellence

Strengthen and amplify our commitment to building an alumni association where all Jayhawks feel they belong.

3. Long-term Revenue Generation & Fiscal Health

Grow and diversify revenue to build future capacity, enhance the Jayhawk experience and strengthen KU.

4. Institutional Outreach & Support

Enhance and develop mutually beneficial strategic partnerships across the university.

5. Operational Effectiveness

Optimize organizational efficiency to achieve operational excellence and alignment in all aspects of Association management.

Our Values

We are committed to Inclusive Excellence. We aim to foster a culture of inclusion and a strong, authentic sense of belonging for all Jayhawks past, present and future. We are building our culture from a foundation that reflects who we are and what we value. We’ve begun this work and made progress through strategic partnerships, inclusive engagement and education—to build and strengthen connections with and among our students and alumni.

We recognize the significance of fostering an environment where every Jayhawk feels KU is and will always be their home. By championing this principle, we aim to build connections that resonate across diverse backgrounds and experiences, ensuring that every Jayhawk feels valued, heard and embraced within our Alumni Association.

Appreciate The Unique

We empower our community to authentically shine. We believe that differences are strengths, all humanity has value and all Jayhawks belong.

Cultivate The Core

We co-construct shared experiences and memories extending from KU’s campus to our global community, connected by what it means to be a Jayhawk.

Fuel The Future

We bravely reimagine the future together and boldly innovate to continue raising the standard for Jayhawk Excellence.

In FY24, we continued our commitment to Inclusive Excellence through our Jayhawks Belong video series. The series showcases our three Catalyst for Connection values.

In Episode 2, “Cultivate the Core,” we highlight our commitment to fostering inclusivity, diversity and a sense of belonging among Jayhawks.

In Episode 3, “Fuel the Future,” we bravely reimagine the future together to continue to raise the standard for Jayhawk Excellence.

*In FY24, the Alumni Association had unrealized gains of $1,257,000 on investments and permanently restricted endowment funds held by the KU Endowment Association that are not included in operating revenues. The Alumni Association also received other non-operating income of $845,000 (net), including $378,000 of donor-restricted contributions and other temporarily restricted income principally for building expansion and renovation. The restricted funds may only be used for their donor designated purposes.

~FY24 operating expenses excludes $1,418,000 of depreciation expense associated with donor-funded property and equipment.

  • 14,500+ users
  • 34,000+ messages sent
  • 8,800 alumni

Impact story

Rose (Class of 2026) connected with Michael (b’92) using KU Mentoring+.

“I had a such a fantastic experience during my informational interview with Michael. His genuine openness and willingness to share practical, actionable steps really set him apart. Instead of just giving theoretical advice, he provided me with immediate steps I can take to grow both professionally and personally. I loved how he shared his own career stories, highlighting what worked for him and what didn’t, which gave me valuable lessons to apply to my own sales journey.  What really stood out was his offer of continued support beyond our meeting. It’s incredibly encouraging to know I have someone like him in my corner, genuinely invested in my success. His insights and guidance will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on my path forward.”

Jayhawk Welcome Center

The New Jayhawk Welcome Center and renovated Adams Alumni Center have become the home for future students, returning alumni, and the KU and Lawrence community. During the fiscal year, the building hosted nearly 150 outside events with approximately 10,000 attendees, and welcomed over 8,000 perspective Jayhawks and their families, remaining a top hospitality destination on campus.

KU Growth

In fall 2024, the University of Kansas welcomed its largest first-year class for the second consecutive year. KU leaders attributed the growth to various factors, including the University’s research reputation, targeted recruitment strategies, realigned financial aid packages and the lustrous new Jayhawk Welcome Center at the Adams Alumni Center.

The enrollment increase has helped strengthen and expand our global alumni community to more than 400,000 Jayhawks.

Giving Opportunities

In FY24, the scope of our traditional giving opportunities continued to expand within and beyond Presidents Club. Throughout the year, 2,349 individual, non-Presidents Club donors gave an average gift of $60 to support programs and services that impact students and alumni. As annual giving becomes more prevalent at all levels for an increasingly significant portion of our audience, the Association will continue to develop accessible giving opportunities.

Rock Chalk Forever

Rock Chalk Forever 2024 continued to build on the momentum of our reimagined Rock Chalk Ball, creating an unforgettable evening of connection and Jayhawk spirit. Over 850 Jayhawks came together at the T-Mobile Center for a sold-out celebration that truly captured the heart and pride of our KU community. As part of a multi-year agreement, we are pleased to have Truity Credit Union as Rock Chalk Forever’s presenting sponsor.

Partners

Corporate Partners: Sponsors and Advertisers

We thank our 2023-2024 event and program sponsors and our print and digital advertisers. Their marketing investments help the Association serve students and alumni through communications and activities that strengthen the Jayhawk network.

We also want to offer a special thanks to Truity Credit Union, which became the largest and most comprehensive corporate partner in Association history in 2024. Truity’s unique investments are strengthening the student experience in Traditions Hall, empowering us to expand critical programs like the Jayhawk Career Network and enhancing the alumni experience through Rock Chalk Forever.
