Jayhawks in leadership positions are everywhere you look, including through the Jayhawk Career Network. KU Alumni, in partnership with SumnerOne, is highlighting Jayhawk leaders who are models for others in their industries with our “Copy the Leader” program.

What do you do in your work?

I help lead OrthoPediatrics’ Enabling Technologies Division. Our focus is on innovative technologies like Navigation, Robotics, and Digital Health platforms that positively impact pediatric spine and orthopedic surgery. Our long-term goal is to introduce new technologies that benefit all pediatric surgeries.

What are the qualities of a good leader?

I believe effective leaders combine sharp competence with authentic passion, clear commitment, and genuine intent. Capable, humble leaders with a balanced IQ and EQ handle adversity best.

How do you practice leadership at your job?

I lead with purpose by keeping meaningful KPIs in sight while genuinely caring and trying. It’s a simple example, but I spend a few minutes each morning writing down ways to impact the day (specific to the principals previously mentioned), then trust my instincts and “let it rip” with a talented team I respect and appreciate.

What makes a team or group successful?

A common cause always unites; we believe in helping kids and children’s hospitals with new, clinically meaningful technology. Beyond that, well-intended leadership paired with true talent shines. Honestly, our team members have always been successful and will continue to succeed in any endeavor.

How can leaders in your industry help their organizations adapt to change?

“Enabling Technologies” signify disruption, but business is evolving faster than ever across all industries. Leaders should embrace this reality, as problem-solvers who welcome challenges make the biggest impact. Pressure is a privilege.
