Primary Accountability

This role is responsible for developing and executing KUA’s social media content strategy, creating high-quality original content across multiple channels while ensuring alignment with the organization’s broader brand, voice, and communications goals. The position also supports e-newsletters, email campaigns, and content as the primary liaison for Student Alumni, Affinity, and Regional Networks. Additionally, the role involves cross-functional collaboration with campus partners, performance analytics reporting, and contributing to marketing initiatives aimed at growing public awareness and donor retention for KUA.

Major Duties
  • Develops content strategy for KUA’s social media channels to effectively reach the desired target audience and marketing goals
  • Supports the development and implementation of KUA’s brand, voice and communication priorities ensuring that KUA is widely seen as a valued engagement and support platform for alumni and campus partners.
  • Produces high-quality, engaging, original social media content that is creative, unique, in line with the latest trends and reflective of KUA’s overarching communications and marketing strategy.
  • Promotes existing content from other resources, such as Crimson & Blue magazine and KU partners.
  • Monitors KUA partners’ news and social channels for content to amplify.
  • Manages content and engages in KUA’s social media communities, including evenings and weekends.
  • Prepares analytics reports that communicate social media performance using key performance indicators.
  • Plans, research, edits, and creates content and strategies for assigned alumni e-newsletters, email, thought leadership articles, and other materials.
  • Creates and provides support/onboarding for new volunteer managed Affinity and Regional network social media accounts 
  • Creates standard operating procedures related to content approval, posting, and other related processes as needed.
  • Identifies problem areas and presents recommendations, solutions, and action plans to appropriate members of leadership.
  • Manages assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Engages and networks confidently at all levels and across multiple, key campus partners that support KUA’s brand and mission.
  • Understands KUA’s mission and how it relates to the educational, research, and service goals of the University.
  • Works both individually and collaboratively, in a team environment that is hybrid.
  • Contributes actively to team’s ideation and planning of marketing plans to increase public awareness of KUA and to attract and to retain donors.
  • Demonstrates engagement in KUA team meetings by sharing ideas and asking questions.
  • Serves as primary liaison for Student Alumni Network, Affinity Networks, Regional Networks and University Relations marketing efforts.
  • Supports newsletter and email development, design and execution on behalf of liaison departments including, but not limited to, regional newsletters, campus faculty/staff newsletter, student newsletters, and regular location-based email updates and offers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, or related field.
  • Three to five years of professional work experience.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications.
  • Meticulous attention to grammar, style, spelling, and editing.
  • Experienced in both short-form and long-form writing.
  • Skilled in digital content strategy.
  • Experience using Facebook, X/Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn professionally as well platform management systems including Sprout Social.
  • Experience in email marketing and email marketing management systems.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines in a changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently, as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and other creative platforms, such as Canva.
  • Experience with graphic design and web graphics.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advertising, marketing, or public relations experience.
  • Familiarity with project management software i.e. Trello, Monday, Basecamp, Jira. 
  • Familiarity with WordPress.
  • Familiarity with Anthology, Salesforce, Marketing Cloud or other CRM systems.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
  • Frequent: sitting, hearing, listening, talking (on phone, in person), reading (including computer screens, mail), interaction with staff, alumni, students, University colleagues, vendors, donors, members, and corporate partners;
  • Often: repetitive hand motion (such as typing or picking), walking;
  • Occasional: work outside normal business hours including nights and weekends, travel by car or plane to offsite meetings and events, ability to lift or have the ability to utilize reasonable available resources to maneuver up to fifty (50) pounds, and exposure to noise and temperature variances at both indoor and outdoor events.
