Jayhawks support their communities with KU Cares Month of Service
Jayhawks in eight different cities came together to give back for the KU Cares Month of Service this November.

The fourth KU Cares Month of Service brought together Jayhawks in eight different cities to support their communities this November.

Returning for the first time since 2019, alumni volunteers organized and hosted events giving back to those in need while connecting over their love of KU.

Alumni in the Las Vegas area volunteered at Three Square, a local food bank that has Beth Martino, g’05 as President and CEO.

“It was so rewarding to assemble 1,300 bags of snacks for kids,” says Jean Truman, b’83. “We worked side by side with honor students from a local high school supporting Three Square Food Bank.”

Other events included making Veterans Day cards in Portland, a donation drive in the Twin Cities that collected over 1,200 pounds of food, and donation drives at watch parties in Denver, Kansas City, Phoenix, Portland and San Antonio.

“We met at KU 14 years ago and share a passion for helping others,” says Twin Cities volunteers Stacy, c’10, and Tyler Pence, d’11. “Our annual food drive is inspired by our community’s generosity and made possible by dedicated volunteers, including other Jayhawks we have met and continue to meet.”
