Chancellor's Message

Class of 2021 invited to rescheduled Commencement ceremony
Chancellor Doug Girod sent the following message to students, faculty and staff May 16, 2021.

Colleagues,

Earlier today we were forced to cancel all three of our scheduled Commencement ceremonies due to the threat of severe weather. I know this was disappointing to graduates and guests, and to all of us at KU who were looking forward to seeing our students on the Hill.

But after the challenges the Class of 2021 has endured for the past year, we will not give up on their Commencement ceremony just yet. I am pleased to let you know we are planning a rescheduled Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 next Sunday afternoon, May 23, in Memorial Stadium. We will share additional details as soon as possible on the Commencement website and via social media.

We recognize not all of our graduates will be able to attend this rescheduled Commencement. We also recognize next weekend’s ceremony won’t be the same without all of them there. For those who can’t be in Lawrence, we will invite them to join the ceremony from wherever they are via livestream on the Commencement website.

Thank you for all you’ve done to support the Class of 2021 and, more broadly, the university community.

Respectfully,

Doug
